Seminar for septic contractors slated MARGARETVILLE, N.Y., February 17, 2004 - "Septic Systems and Their Installation," a free one-day course for contractors, haulers, pumpers, and municipal inspectors, will be held Wednesday, Mar. 17 in Margaretville and Thursday, Mar. 25 in Olive. There is no fee for the class but registration is required by March 10 for the Margaretville class (snow date March 18, to be held at Catskill Watershed Corporation offices on Main Street), and by March 18 for the Olive class (snow date March 26, to be held at the Olive Town Meeting Hall on Bostock Road). The seminar runs from 9 to 5 and includes lunch. The seminar, sponsored by the CWC, will be presented by SUNY Delhi in cooperation with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the NYS Onsite Wastewater Training Network. The seminar provides an introduction to the biology of wastewater treatment, system design, systems components, the importance of soil classification, recognizing system failures and the new technologies available to avoid pollution. CWC staff will be on hand to describe reimbursement policies, procedures and new programs just getting underway to address residential septic systems in the New York City Watershed West of the Hudson River. New York City Department of Environmental Protection staff will also be available to answer any questions. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion.
