Vols Needed for Watershed Stream Clean-up MARGARETVILLE, N.Y., April 5, 2004 - There is still time to "adopt" a streambank in preparation for the 5th Annual Catskill-Delaware Watershed Stream Clean-up Saturday, May 15. Volunteers are asked to register by May 5. The event is sponsored by the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC), which is seeking groups and individuals to remove litter and debris from their local creek or riverbank and from public access areas near waterways. If May 15 is an inconvenient date, groups may opt to do the clean-up anytime through Saturday, May 22, the period that coincides with National River Cleanup Week. Scout troops, sporting organizations, civic groups and others are invited to participate in the stream clean-up. The CWC will supply trash bags and thank-you gifts for all volunteers. Removal of collected trash can be arranged if necessary. Last year's clean-up drew 500 volunteers who scoured 28 miles of streambank in the five-county watershed. The CWC invites calls from residents who know the locations of large trash items or debris they feel should be removed from streams. The CWC will attempt to arrange for pick up of these items in conjunction with the clean-up. To register, or to suggest a clean-up site, contact the CWC at 845-586-1400. |
