CWC sponsors class on sediment and erosion control

MARGARETVILLE, NY, Feb. 1, 2006 - The Catskill Watershed Corporation will sponsor a one-day review course March 22 (snow date March 23) on the theories and applications of management practices for sediment and erosion control.

The free course, taught by noted stormwater specialist Don Lake, will be offered at Hanah Country Resort in Margaretville. It is designed for individuals preparing to take the exam to become a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). However, the session is also beneficial for those who work in the construction field and want a comprehensive review of stormwater Best Management Practices, regardless of whether they plan to take the exam.

Highway supervisors and personnel, engineers, developers and contractors are encouraged to attend the class, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The $75 course manual will be provided free to attendees. Lunch will also be provided at no charge.

Instructor Don Lake, Jr., PE, is an Engineering Specialist with the NYS Soil & Water Conservation Committee. He teaches graduate courses in Stormwater Management at SUNY ESF, and is the principal author of New York Guidelines for Urban Erosion and Sediment Control, and the New York Contractors Erosion and Sediment Control Field Notebook. He served in the USDA’s Natural Resource Conservation Service for 27 years and received the International Erosion Control Association’s Sustained Contributor Award for 1996.
