CWC approves funds for stormwater projects MARGARETVILLE, NY, Feb. 29, 2006 - The Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of Directors February 28 approved funds for stormwater control projects in the Towns of Hunter and Hurley. The Board okayed reimbursement of up to $367,424 for runoff management systems necessitated by the construction of a new Stewart’s shop in Haines Falls along Route 23A in the Town of Hunter. The project involved installation of an underground pipe storage system and wet pond, an oil/water separator, a pretreatment tank, a sand filter, catch basins and swales. Funding for this project will come from the CWC’s Future Stormwater Program for new construction. Also approved was a Stormwater Retrofit Program grant of $235,320 to the Town of Hurley for a stormwater collection system at the town’s landfill, transfer station and highway garage off Dug Hill Road. The Town proposes to install shallow interceptor trenches around the perimeter of the capped, unlined landfill to prevent stormwater from commingling with landfill leachate. Phase Two of the project will be to construct Best Management Practices to control runoff from the transfer station and highway garage to prevent contamination of a stream that runs into the Ashokan Reservoir. The Town of Hurley will contribute more than $41,000 in in-kind services and equipment, bringing the total project cost to $276,848.
