CWC Approves Grants to Six Municipalities

MARGARETVILLE, NY, April 26, 2006 - The Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of Directors April 25 approved grants totaling $246,947 to six municipalities under the new Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP).

The program is intended to encourage community planning initiatives that improve the quality of life and enhance water supply protection.

Martin Donnelly, Supervisor of the Town of Andes, and James Eisel, Supervisor of the Town of Harpersfield, were re-elected to their Board seats.

Projects approved for funding in this initial grant round include:

Delaware County Highway Maintenance Plan, $50,000

This project will complete highway management plans for the Towns of Deposit, Hamden, Kortright, Roxbury, and Walton. It is part of a multi-year project to complete highway plans for all 17 Delaware County towns with land in the New York City Watershed. The objective is to manage each town’s road and stormwater infrastructure in a more environmentally and fiscally conscientious fashion.

Jewett Infrastructure Study ($30,000)

This project will study current building and highway infrastructure to determine the most environmentally and fiscally prudent methods to accommodate expected future growth and renovation needs in this Greene County town.

Margaretville Comprehensive Plan ($34,947)

This project will complete a village comprehensive plan to allow for growth while preserving green/open space, incorporating portions of Delaware County’s Phosphorus Reduction Strategy and utilizing existing land use studies which focus on recreation and revitalization.

Tannersville Highway Maintenance Plan ($32,000)

This project will complete a Village highway maintenance plan to manage road and stormwater infrastructure in a more environmental and economical fashion.

Walton Floodplain Analysis ($50,000)

This project will complete a floodplain analysis on a 23-acre parcel within the Village of Walton (between Bridge St., Rt. 10, and Rt. 206) which contains two village wells. This analysis is part of a larger stream management project being funded by various state, regional and local agencies.

Windham Generic Environmental Impact Statement ($50,000)

This project will complete a Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) for the town’s sewer district along South Street and surrounding areas to identify measures necessary to mitigate environmental impacts of potential development, including combination impacts of multiple projects if they exist.
