CWC approves three Stormwater projects

MARGARETVILLE, NY, April 26, 2006 - The Towns of Shandaken and Windham and the Ulster County Environmental Management Council will receive funding for stormwater planning and correction projects following action taken April 25 by the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of Directors.

The grants were awarded under the CWC’s Stormwater Retrofit Program.

An award of $44,600 was granted to the Town of Shandaken to complete a Stormwater Infrastructure Assessment and Planning project for the hamlet of Phoenicia. Data on existing infrastructure will be collected and stormwater problems and solutions evaluated to develop a prioritized list of stormwater mitigation projects in the hamlet.

The Town of Windham will receive $25,834 for catch basins and other stormwater control devices installed at a new municipal parking lot on Main Street.

Ulster County’s Comprehensive Stormwater Infrastructure Inventory and Assessment Project will be continued with grant of $50,000. Phase One of the project, completed under an earlier CWC grant, surveyed and assessed the condition of stormwater infrastructure on 78 miles of county roadways in eight Watershed Towns. The goal of Phase Two is to develop standard operating procedures and institutional policies for county highway stormwater management, and to encourage and provide support to town highway departments to do the same.

A high-pressure wash and vacuum truck, to be shared with local highway departments in Ulster County’s Watershed towns, will be purchased with a separate grant approved by the CWC Board in March.
