Septic Maintenance Class Scheduled

"Essentials of Septic Maintenance for Homeowners," a free class offered by the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC), will be held Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at the Catskill Mountain Foundation’s Red Barn, Main Street, Hunter.

Advance registration is not necessary.

The two-hour class will cover the basics of wastewater treatment, various types of septic systems, health and environment effects that can result from failed septic systems, and roles and responsibilities of homeowners, regulators, engineers and contractors. The class will explain what’s involved in regular septic maintenance, which can extend the life of newly installed septic systems, and help owners of older systems avoid costly repair or replacement projects.

A free Water Saving Kit and a Septic System Owner’s Guide will be given to all participants. Information on the CWC’s Septic Repair and Rehabilitation, and Septic Maintenance Programs will also be offered.

For more information, call the CWC at 845-586-1400.
